Marc Eckles, Associate
Mr. Eckels earned his Bachelors Degree in Earth Sciences from Dartmouth College in 1973. He has had a broad career over four decades in oil and gas exploration and production, geothermal exploration, mineral exploration, water well drilling, oil field and water systems automation, and project management on private, federal, state and tribal lands. He has experience in project conception, identifying and leasing target acreage, well drilling and completion, operation of multiple producing oil and gas fields, production marketing, regulatory compliance, landowner relations, and acquisitions and divestures.
During his career, Mr. Eckels has worked for Phelps Dodge (AZ); Weston Geophysical Research (MA); Materi Exploration (WY/CO); Suek, Eckels, Toler & Co. (CO); Quintana Minerals (UT/TX); ADS Operating (UT/TX); Wind River Resources (UT); Loyz America (ND/CO); and as an independent consultant and expert witness.
He spent ten years as operations manager for Quintana Minerals, drilling, completing and operating deep over-pressured oil and gas wells in Utah’s Altamont-Bluebell field, managing 546 shallow Madison limestone oil wells in northern Montana, and participating on an evaluation team for field acquisitions in Argentina and Peru.
From 1999 through 2012 he was chief operating officer, vice president, and a director of Wind River Resources, and general manager of its drilling, completion and oil field construction subsidiaries. In 2000, he conceived and executed the first exploration 3D seismic survey in Utah’s Uinta Basin, providing the basis for new field natural gas discoveries at depths ranging from 3,500 feet to more than 12,000 feet.
Mr. Eckels is the author or co-author of eight publications dealing with Utah oil and gas exploration and drilling subjects. He has also served on technical advisory boards for several DOE/REPSEA–funded research projects in the Uinta Basin. He currently serves the Utah Geological Survey as chairman of its board of directors.
